So this testing is entirely on the same local area network, in the same subnet? Is wired or wireless networking in use here, or is this a combination network? If wired, are there any intervening devices in your connections other than maybe a switch, or are the wired connections all being routed through a gateway/firewall/router box and not a switch? If it's wireless networking in use here, see if using a wired connection works any better. What box is providing DHCP addresses for your network, or is the whole network ad-hoc using just Bonjour networking and {hostname}.local addresses?
